Journey of Martin Scott
Martin was born in Fort Albany and grew up on the reservation. He later moved to Attawapiskat, to what he now calls home.
As a first language speaker of Cree, Martin did not speak a word of english until 20 years of age. Having an instructor with unbounded patience while he learned to communicate through english speaking methods, was an amazing blessing to Martin. Every step of the way Martin’s instructor assisted him along his education journey.
Today, Martin is certified as a Level 1 - Indigenous Focused Trauma Social Worker (One-on-One) and Level 2 Indigenous Psychotherapy & Complex Trauma (Group Work).
“I’ve learned from many teachers during my lifetime. The most important teachings came from elders, life experience, and Gitchi-Manitou — The Great Spirit”.
— Martin Scott
Helping Others is powerful
Martin Scott's primary focus is guiding Indigenous people on a journey to free themselves from the burden of trauma by embracing the strength of our cultural teachings and ceremonies.
The pathway to wellness is holistic, centering on the restoration of balance between the mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual aspects of a person. A key part of this healing involves the use of traditional, natural medicines to help cleanse and detoxify the body from drugs and alcohol, offering a culturally-grounded pathway to healing.
Guided by the understanding that we are stewards of the land appointed by the Creator, Gitchi-Manitou, Martin emphasizes a personal responsibility within us all: we must first nurture our own mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual health, so that we are able to help others to our full potential. It is by healing ourselves that we become strong enough to contribute to the healing of our families, our communities, and our Nations.
